EPR is a new UK legislation that requires producers to pay the total cost of dealing with the waste they produce from when it is placed packaging onto the market to the end of its life. If you are obligated under EPR, you are responsible for collecting and reporting data for all packaging placed into the UK market.

The first two packaging EPR reporting deadlines for large producers remain unchanged; however, no enforcement action will be taken if they are submitted by 31 May 2024.
Defra has made clear that their regulatory position statement (RPS) does not change the legal requirement for large producers to report their 2023 H1 and H2 data to the Environment Agency on or before 1 October 2023 and 1 April 2024, respectively and “encourage obligated producers to use all reasonable endeavours” to do so. Two separate EPR reports will still need to be submitted.
Across the board, businesses are facing unprecedented upheaval. Change is never easy, but this change has left retailers, nurseries, manufacturers, and suppliers scratching their heads.

“We have worked with Ecoveritas for a number of years to support compliance with Packaging Waste Regulations, now including EPR. my.ecoveritas, which has been developed for garden centres, nurseries and growers that are obligated to report under EPR, has removed a significant, time-consuming administrative burden from our teams”.

“The HTA continues to provide support, guidance and information to help our members prepare for Extended Producer Responsibilities whilst obtaining vital clarifications for horticulture from government and have been impressed with Ecoveritas’ support in this.
We’re delighted that their my.ecoveritas platform which aims to save businesses time and effort in meeting their EPR reporting obligations is now live. Ecoveritas has developed their platform especially for horticulture by working with our members, and their methodology has been approved by Environment Agency. We see my.ecoveritas as being very beneficial for members.”
